Every year on September 28, the world celebrates “International Safe Abortion Day” to remind us of women’s right to access safe and legal abortion. While governments around the world have almost unanimously removed abortion restrictions in their respective countries, the Philippines has not followed suit and remains to contend with its restrictive abortion law.
For the past few weeks, women’s rights organizations, reproductive health advocates and youth advocates recently gathered in a series of stakeholder consultations on the proposed bill to decriminalize abortion in the Philippines and affirmed the call to “Save Women’s Lives: Decriminalize Abortion Now!” This series of consultations will culminate in the public launch of the draft bill which will be held on September 28, celebrated globally as International Safe Abortion Day.
Please join us this September 28 from 1:00-5:00 PM as we publicly launch the draft bill to decriminalize abortion. The launch will feature a presentation on the salient features of the bill and a short open forum. After the presentation and open forum, there will be a live art event highlighting abortion stories of individuals. Now on its third run, Telling Truer Stories is an initiative that seeks to shape perceptions of abortion stories by showcasing truths in different art forms and publishing the stories in an anthology.
The event will be done via Zoom. Kindly register through this form. Rest assured that all information provided in this form will remain confidential.
Your participation will greatly contribute to the success of this event. Thank you.
